
PHCS Portuguese Language Class 2008
NOTE TO ALL WHO HAVE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN PHCS PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE LESSONS
First, we thank you for your interest in the Portuguese language. We hope this session, which Portuguese Historical and Cultural Society is providing as a community service, will be a pleasant experience for you.
Portuguese is the third most widely spoken language in Europe and the seventh, globally.
At the request of the teacher, Mrs. Da Guia, class size is limited to 25 students. After 25, others will be placed on a “standby” basis.
First Meeting:
The plan is to present an overview of the class, to register students and to provide a lesson at the initial meeting. Additionally, we will collect the registration fee and the cost of the textbook which is entitled “Bom Dia”, Level I, ( or Level 2) produced by Spinner Publications, New Bedford, Massachusetts. The authors are Marcia Matos and Sara Neto-Kalife. This is a highly acclaimed new Portuguese language textbook which also covers culture, history and geography of Portugal.
Please come prepared with either your checkbook or cash. We are unable to accept credit card payment.
Following are the arrangements which have been made for the language lessons:
Registration/first class: Thursday, March 6, 6:30 p.m.
Class Date/Time: Thursday evenings (From March 6 through May 8, 2008)
7:00 p.m. (class duration—approximately 1½ - 2 hours)

Conversational, some travel
Cost of Textbook: $40 (Price includes 25% discount plus shipping and handling)
Cost of Registration: $40 per student
Supplemental materials: The lessons will also be augmented by supplemental materials and activities provided by Mrs. Da Guia

(Mrs. Da Guia is a native speaker of Portuguese. She has taught Portuguese in San Jose schools. She is also the author of two children’s books)
